How it works
Editorial Standards
The rules this site is written to, stated plainly so they can be held against it.
Independence
- No entry in the directory is paid for, and none can be purchased, amended or removed in exchange for payment.
- No affiliate relationships exist with any gambling operator, and no outbound links to gambling sites are published.
- No operator, supplier or regulator has sight of an entry before publication or a right of approval over it.
- Where a company is described in a way it would dispute, the dispute is a matter for correction on the facts, not negotiation.
Accuracy
Statements are written to be defensible as at the review date shown on the page. Where a position is contested, disputed in court, or in transition, the entry says so rather than choosing a side for the sake of a cleaner sentence.
Numbers are used sparingly and only where they are stable. A figure that cannot be stated without a methodology note is generally left out, because a number with no method attached is read as more precise than it is.
How companies are described
The directory records what a company does and where it sits in the industry. It does not rate, rank or recommend, and it does not describe any operator as safe, trustworthy or generous, because those are judgements this site is not in a position to make and which a reader should not accept from a secondary source in any case.
Where a company has been the subject of a significant public regulatory action, and that action is material to understanding its position in the industry, it is recorded as fact without editorial comment.
How regulators are described
Regulatory regimes are described in terms of what they require and what their supervision concentrates on, not whether they are good or bad. Where the design of a regime has an observable consequence, such as a tax base that suppresses a product or an advertising ban that entrenches incumbents, the consequence is stated as a mechanism rather than as a complaint.
Gambling harm
This site covers an industry whose product causes serious harm to a minority of the people who use it. That fact is treated as part of the subject rather than as a disclaimer appended to it, which is why harm prevention has its own topic and why market profiles record exclusion registers and limit regimes alongside licensing and tax.
Nothing here encourages gambling, recommends an operator or describes how to play. The page on responsible gambling sets out what the available protections actually do.
Corrections and right of reply
Factual errors are corrected on notification through the contact page. A correction changes the underlying data, which updates the review date shown on every page that draws on it. Disagreement about emphasis or interpretation is not treated as an error, but a company is entitled to point out where a description of its business is wrong, and such notifications are acted on.
