A data company built on exclusive official rights deals with leagues rather than on independent collection.
Genius Sports competes with Sportradar primarily by holding exclusive official data rights, including arrangements with major American and European competitions. An official rights deal gives the holder the fastest and most authoritative feed, and allows the league to control who may use its data for betting purposes.
That model turned sports data into a rights market comparable to broadcasting. Leagues discovered that their in-play data had a value separate from their television rights, and the resulting deals are now a material revenue line for several competitions.
The company has also pushed into products that merge betting with viewing, embedding markets directly into a stream, which is where the commercial interests of leagues, broadcasters and bookmakers now overlap most closely, and where advertising and harm-prevention rules are least settled.
Companies that collect what happens in a match, turn it into priced markets, and sell both the feed and the risk management around it. They also sit at the centre of sporting integrity monitoring.
