What the company does

IGT in its current form was created when the Italian lottery technology group GTECH acquired International Game Technology in 2015 and took its name. The combined business spanned lottery systems, land-based gaming machines and digital gaming, with the lottery side operating national and state lotteries under long-term contracts rather than simply selling them equipment.

Lottery is a very different business from casino supply. Contracts run for a decade or more, are awarded by public procurement, and involve operating the infrastructure of a state monopoly, which makes the customer relationship more like a public utility concession than a vendor agreement.

In 2024 the group agreed to divest its gaming and digital business, leaving the company focused on lottery, a separation that reflects how differently investors value the two activities.

Where this sits in the supply chain

Manufacturers of gaming machines, lottery systems and casino equipment, most of which now run digital divisions as well. The engineering and compliance culture of the online industry comes largely from this sector.
