A small Stockholm studio known for original art direction rather than licensed themes.
Thunderkick has stayed deliberately small and has built its reputation on original themes and a consistent visual identity at a time when much of the market relies on licensed intellectual property and recognisable formats. Esqueleto Explosivo and Pink Elephants are the titles usually cited.
The studio is a useful illustration of the economics at the independent end of the content market: a catalogue of distinctive games can sustain a business of this size through aggregation, but reaching the scale of a Pragmatic Play or a Play'n GO requires either outside capital or a mechanic the rest of the industry wants to licence.
The companies that design and build the games themselves, principally slots. They are paid a share of the revenue their games generate rather than a licence fee, which is why a studio's commercial fortunes depend on a small number of titles performing across many operators.
