Alderney has licensed online gambling since 2000 and is best known for the clarity of its two-category structure. A Category 1 licence covers the business that holds the customer relationship, including registration and funds. A Category 2 licence covers the business that operates the equipment and runs the games. The split makes the jurisdiction well suited to platform providers serving several brands.
The commission has a long-standing reputation for the depth of its due diligence on applicants and key individuals, and it charges fixed annual fees rather than taxing revenue, which is attractive to high-volume business-to-business operations.
As with the other Crown Dependencies, an Alderney licence does not authorise supply into markets that require their own point-of-consumption licence, so licensees serving consumer markets hold national licences alongside it.
Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC), based in St Anne and operating under Alderney eGambling Ordinance and Regulations. A Channel Island regulator whose two-category licence separates the customer relationship from the platform.

Legal and compliance
A licence is not a badge of quality and it is not valid everywhere. What it authorises, who it binds, and why one company often holds a dozen.
